Learning English in person from a native speaker is the best way to become fluent. However, not everyone has the access, time, or opportunity to learn in a classroom or with a tutor.
Thanks to the Internet, there are more ways of learning English than ever before. Many of these online resources are free. But, while there are many good places to learn English on the Internet, there are also a lot of bad ones. As I look through many of these sites to find resources to help students in my classes, I will add links and short reviews of these sites to this part of Scott’s ESOL site.
If I can’t find an existing resource on the web that does a good job (in my opinion) of teaching a concept I think is important, I will create a lesson myself.
Each person has their own style of learning, so what works for me may not work for you. Also, there are many different levels of language learning. If you are reading this, you are already pretty good at English, so I will not present sites that are for very low level learners.
I will also create a form for students of the two classes I teach to let me know what they would like to learn. If you are coming to this web site from outside the Tallahassee area and have not been able to find a place to learn something particular about the English language, please let me know through that same form. I will attempt to either find it or, perhaps create it. I am very busy, so I won’t make any promises as to when I will put something up, but I will make a concerted effort to make this site a valuable addition for those people trying to learn English by using the Web.
